It's about time you got yourself a gutter installation for your roof! No need to break the bank hiring workmen, strap on that DIY tool belt and well…’gutter-done yourself’! Step 1: Gathering Your Gutter Gear
Before we embark on our DIY home improvement project, let’s round up the necessary tools and materials. Here's a list of what we'll need:
- A sturdy ladder
- Chalk for marking
- Measuring tape
- Gutters, downspouts and associated hardware (like screws & brackets)
- A level
- A hacksaw (or reciprocating saw)
- Cordless drill
- Protective equipment

Step 2: Reckoning with Rainwater and Measuring Up
Now, let's figure out the path that your rainwater will take. Start by marking a line with chalk on your fascia board at the highest point of where the gutter will be installed. Then, measure the distance from this point to your downspout opening location.
Preferably, for every 10 feet of gutter, there should be a 1/2 inch slope leading to the downspout to ensure efficient water flow. So, mark your downspout end point accordingly.
Step 3: Cutting and Mounting the Gutters
Now, let’s get to the real McCoy: cutting the gutter sections to fit. Measure out the required length, mark it with chalk, and get to work with your hacksaw or reciprocating saw. Next, securely mount gutter brackets to your fascia board using the cordless drill, keeping it lined up with your chalk markings.
