The First Clues: Is Your Mixer Shaft in Distress?
Taking cue from my decades of stewarding appliances, a problematic mixer shaft would typically present itself with these symptoms:

Dressing the Part: What You'll Need
First, let's accrue the DIY army needed for this mission. You'll need a Phillips-head screwdriver, a flat-head screwdriver, a wrench, some grease, and a new mixer shaft if your existing one is beyond rescue.
Setting the Stage: Preparing Your Mixer
First things first, disconnect your mixer from its power source. Safety first, folks! Now, remove the beaters. This is typically easy-peasy: just pull them out or press the eject button. See? You're a natural!
The Tinkering Begins: Detaching the Mixer Shaft
Here's where things get meaty. First, pry out the beater socket covers using your flat-head screwdriver with careful hands—we don't want to harm these little babies. Once you do that, you'll be staring at the screws. Remove them using your Phillips-head screwdriver.
Now, put your wrench to work and carefully unscrew the mixer shaft. Remember, right to tighten, left to loosen! And voilà, the mixer shaft is out!
The Star of the Show: Inspecting the Mixer Shaft
Now, it's time to play detective with your shaft after its grand exit. A healthy mixer shaft should be straight and smooth, without any chinks in its armor. If it's bent, excessively worn, or cracked, it's replacement time. No shame in that!
However, if your stubborn mixer shaft is in pretty good shape, it might just need some TLC. A little grease cleaning, re-application, and the prodigal mixer shaft can return to its mixer home!
Bidding Adieu: Wrapping It Up
Whether you replace or tweak your mixer's shaft, reassembly follows the path of detachment, only in reverse. Put back the mixer shaft, tighten it, put back the screws, and finally, the beater socket covers. Your mixer is now ready to whip up some delicious batter again!
